EFCC arrests NBC DG over fraud

Emeka Mba The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has arrested the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Emeka Mba. Investigation reveals that Mba was arrested on Monday over an alleged N15 billion fraud and was taken to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja. He is currently being grilled by the commission, according to a source. It will be recalled that detectives of the EFCC stormed the DG’s office last week and invited some staff.

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius begins Constitutional Court appeal against conviction for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Last year, Pistorius was given a five-year jail sentence for "culpable homicide" of Steenkamp, but prosecutors argued that he should be convicted of murder for firing four shots through a locked toilet door in a case that attracted interest around the world and continues to fascinate and divide South Africa. 

Fashola unveils 13-point agenda to improve power supply

Babatunde Fashola Minister of Power, Road and Works, Babatunde Fashola, has unveiled his 13-point agenda for the power sector in Nigeria. This was unveiled during the maiden meeting he had with power generation, distribution and transmission companies, also other stakeholders in Abuja today January 11th, 2016. Fashola said in his address that the agenda involves continuous public engagement on tariff collection, debts, power generation, maintenance, ancillary services, dispatch orders and discipline, gas requirement and problems, transmission constraints, 33KV load off take, imbalances-locations of excess, overload safety, service quality, new captive and embedded generation, franchising and other issues relevant to the increase of the sector. He promised to improve the distribution of pow‎er.

Tunde Bakare calls for the sack of CBN governor for the $2.1bn arms deal fraud

A well known Lagos pastor, Tunde Bakare who contested presidential election in 2011 has called for the sack of the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele for his alleged role in the disbursement of the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud. Tunde Bakare said this during his state of the nation address yesterday January 10th, He said; "The CBN currently contributes negatively to the Nigerian state in more ways than one. Firstly, the CBN has become a conduit for politicians to drain the nation. Otherwise, how can a letter of barely two paragraphs, addressed to the current CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, by the then NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), become the authority to incur expenditure leading to cash flow of $37m and several million euros? FG is planning to extend NYSC scheme beyond a year

corps members The Federal Government may extend the National Youth Service Corps scheme beyond one year to accommodate skill acquisition and entrepreneurial training. The Minister of Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalong disclosed this during an inspection tour of the Lagos State NYSC orientation camp at Iyana Ipaja area of the state last week Tuesday, According to him, as part of the government’s effort to reduce unemployment in the country, the one-year national service scheme will  include professional and enterprising programmes to support and motivate those who would not want to be public servants in the country.
