Gunmen killed priest, set him and car ablaze

Gunmen killed a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. David Tanko, on Thursday in Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State of Nigeria. The Chairman of the Local Government, Mr Shiban Tikari, who confirmed the killing said the bandit killed, set the priest and his vehicle on fire after being ambushed on his way to a meeting to resolve the crisis between the Tiv and their Jakun neighbours in Kufai Amadu community in Takum. Tikari said that Tanko was an indigene of Wukari Local Government Area of the state. He pointed people he described as Tiv militia for the killing, alleging that the militia was responsible for other attacks that had claimed lives and property in Southern Taraba. Efforts to speak to the police authority proved abortive as calls and text messages sent to the police spokesman, Mr David Misal, were not responding. FCTA takes record of undeveloped land

FCT Director of Land Administration Adamu Jibrin Hussaini has stated that the preparatory to the planned revocation of land in Phases I, II and III in Abuja, capital of Federal Capital Territory  (FCT) of undeveloped plots has been recorded. He mentioned this during a visit by postgraduate students of Sustainable Urban Development of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. The director recalled that it was announced in line with the FCT Executive Committee’s  approval that the Department of Land Administration commenced the process of revoking titles of undeveloped plots. According to him, the department  announced this on July 31, warning allottees  that have been serviced with infrastructure to develop them or  face revocation within three months of the publication. Japan PM warns Africans about debt

Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe on Thursday warned African leaders against accumulating too much debt, in an apparent reference to Chinese infrastructure projects that some blame for damaging the finances of developing nations. Speaking to leaders from many African nations at a development conference in Yokohama, Abe emphasised that Tokyo was promoting investments and exports of quality infrastructure supported by Japan’s government-backed institutions. “What should the government do to encourage (entrepreneurs) to exercise their skills?,” Abe asked the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). “If partner countries are deeply in debt, it interferes with everyone’s efforts to enter the market,” he said, introducing financing and insurance schemes by Japan’s government-baked institutions aimed at reducing risks to businesses and public coffers. He revealed that Japan plans to train experts in 30 African countries in next three years on risks and public
