NASS increases 2018 budget from N8.6trn to N9.1trn

The National Assembly has increased the 2018 budget from the initial N8.612 trillion to N9.120 trillion. The details of the budget were listed on the order paper available at the Nigerian Senate on today. The report was laid by Danjuma Goje, Chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee and assisted by Senator Mathew Uroghide. The national assembly had promised to pass the N8.6 trillion budget on April 24 but it failed to do so. Similarly, the House of Representatives on May 3, promised to pass the budget the following week. “By next week, everything about the budget will be treated and passed,” the spokesman of the lower legislative chamber, Abdulrazak Namdas, said. But the report on the budget was not laid in either of the chambers. The Senate did not sit on the Thursday of that week. On May 7, after a meeting with Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, Bukola Saraki, President of the Nigerian Senate, told journalists that the bill would be laid “early next week”.

Governor Abubakar Atiku directs teachers to train students on drug control

Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has directed teachers to imbibe the training of drugs control for effective application to fight drugs abuse among students. According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, said the governor adviced at a training programme for the State's secondary school teachers on drugs abuse organized by the State Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the United Nation Office. He commended the Federal Government for banning the importation of codeine into the country which has been identify as a substance for intoxication. Governor Atiku Bagudu advised them to involve communities in the design of confronting menace of drugs abuse saying that, drug problems did not starts and ended in school, but affect larger society. 50-year-old American actor, Josh Brolin, is the latest high-profile celebrity to pose completely nude for the famous Fish Love campaign, which is targeted at ending unsustainable fishing. In the photo released on Tuesday, 'The Avengers: Infinity War' star playing Thanos in the blockbuster movie is captured in a photo with a Hawaiian Wahoo fish for the campaign, with the sea creature strategically placed to protect his modesty.
