President Buhari returns from Uk's medical check-up

President Muhammadu Buhari has today returned to the country after visiting his doctor in the United Kingdom for a medical check-up. Buhari arrived with the Presidential wing to the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja, at 6:30 p.m. The president who left Nigeria on Tuesday, was earlier scheduled to return to the country on Saturday. Among those who received him at the airport were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Bello and the Permanent Secretary State House, Jalil Arabia. Others were the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu and Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Rooney agrees 'deal in principle' to move to MLS

Wayne Rooney has agreed a "deal in principle" to join Major League Soccer side DC United from Premier League club Everton, reports said Thursday. It has been suggested a £12.5 million ($17 million) deal has been agreed that could see the 32-year-old leave his boyhood club just 12 months after rejoining them from Manchester United. Reports say Rooney has been offered a contract until the end of the 2020 season, although the MLS transfer window does not open until July. "In MLS you have always some iconic players that are going to end their careers there," said Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, who coached Rooney in his final season at Old Trafford. "You had (Steven) Gerrard, (Frank) Lampard, (Patrick) Vieira...now you have Zlatan (Ibrahimovic), you have Wayne, so I hope he enjoys (it). "Of course he will bring the attention that MLS needs to attract more people, to steal some people from the other sports that more Americans like." D

CAN General Secretary dies

Late Dr Musa Asake The General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Dr Musa Asake, 66, has passed away. Asake reportedly died earlier today after an illness, in Abuja, his brother and former member of the House of Representatives, Jonathan Asake told PUNCH Newspaper. Asake’s death is coming two weeks after he led a nationwide protest called by CAN against the killing of Christians by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The deceased, an indigene of Southern Kaduna, has been vocal in the defence of Christianity in Nigeria

Adams Oshiomhole declares interest to contest for APC chairman

The former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Thursday declared his intention to contest for the post of National Chairman of All Progressive Congress  (APC) with a promise, if elected, to ensure that the Executive and Legislative arms of government found a common ground to work. Oshiomhole also said he would always ensure a win, win solution rather than a loser and a winner in APC party if he became its next national chairman. “If I am privileged to become chairman, I would help the Executive and the Legislature to find common ground to win together. “Let me say that I think with all sense of modesty, that I am well prepared for this kind of role,´´ he said He added that as a former National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), he had the skill to negotiate, persuade, and to make a consensus. World oldest leader Malaysian prime minister sworn in

Mahathir Mohamad  92-year-old Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday was sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister following his election victory over the coalition that has ruled the Southeast Asian nation for six decades since independence from Britain. Malaysia’s constitutional monarch, Sultan Muhammad V, administered the oath of office in a ceremony. As the oldest elected leader in the world, hundreds of Malaysians were lined up on the road leading to the palace, waving party flags and cheering. The Election Commission announced the result long before dawn and there was some dismay in the capital over the time taken to swear in the new prime minister. “There is an urgency here, we need to form the government now, today,” Mahathir told a news conference earlier yesterday, where he insisted that he would be sworn in.
