Stakeholders praise Buhari over athletes’ reward

Former Coach of 3SC FC of Ibadan, Festus Allen has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for fulfilling his promise to the 1985 squad that won the maiden FIFA U-17 World Cup. Buhari at a ceremony in Abuja also honoured members of the D’Tigress team that won the African Basketball Championship and the medallists at the 2015 All Africa Games. The president honoured them for doing the country proud in their respective sports. Allen said that the president’s gesture would prompt present sportsmen and women to intensify their effort when representing the country. “It a great development and the president should be commended for fulfilling his promise, especially to the 1985 squad. “Other athletes that have done the country proud and have yet to be recognised or rewarded should not give up, their rewards will come someday,’’ he said. The Zamfara state Governor Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, was accused by two publications – City People and The Polity of dating 21 year old Zahra, President Muhammadu Buhari's daughter. They also claimed the Governor, who is Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, gifted her a whopping $200 million. The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick, and a contestant in the election for the presidency of the NFF chairman that saw Pinnick assume office, Chris Giwa, got physical during a meeting called by Sports Minister Solomon Dalung in Abuja yesterday Jan. 20th. Chris Giwa who had claimed he was the rightfully elected president of the NFF following the August 26, 2014 election, announced plans to resume office on January 12, 2016 to reclaim his mandate and chase out the Amaju Pinnick-led executive that has been in office since 2014. National Assembly continues debate on 2016 budget today

The debate session took place on Wednesday at both the upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly in Abuja, is said to continue today Thursday, January 21. Yesterday the lawmakers in the Senate had divided opinions on the financial plan, as some opposition lawmakers in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asked questions on the financial capacity of the government to fund the budget considering the fall in oil prices and the deficit in the budget with an initial oil price benchmark of $38 per barrel. However, some legislators from the ruling All Progressives Congress hailed the budget while describing it as a ‘budget of the people’. The budget debate in the House of Representatives was approached with less passion, as it was commenced by the House’s majority leader. The debate which came after weeks of back and forth over the status and whereabouts of the budget presented by President Muhammadu Buhari continues.
