14 people dead, 27 injured in bus crash in Central Japan


Atleast 14 people died, 27 injured in bus crash in Central Japan. The bus was on it way to ski resort when it slid off the road

The overnight bus left Tokyo Thursday night, carrying 39 passengers and two drivers when it crashed at the Usui mountain pass heading to the popular Kita Shiga ski area. The drivers, who were taking turns, were among the dead.

"What caused the accident is not known". According to Japan police, "looking from the scene, it showed no snow on the road and conditions were dry at the time of the crash".

The bus operating company has a record of drivers' safety violations and is now under investigation, said ministry officials. It had received a penalty and vehicle suspension only two days previously.
