President Muhammadu Buhari, has promised today in Abuja that
Nigeria will stand with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), with the resolutions of the AU on the right of the people of Sahrawi to self-determination and independence.

The president made the pledge when speaking with SADR Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Salem Quld Salek.

He assured that outstanding issues on self-determination for the SADR would be seriously attended to.

Mohammed Salem Quld Salek said, his country would never forget the role Nigeria and its then military head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari played in recognising his country in 1984, when it sought self-determination from Morocco.

“It paved the way for the United Nations to adopt several key resolutions on Western Sahara, Salek said.

According to Salek, Nigeria has helped several African countries to achieve independence, noting that SADR is the only pending matter on the continent.

SADR is a founding member of the African Union since1984 and had been recognised by over 80 countries around the world.
