Former Auditor General of Borno dies in UNILAG Fire

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)  has confirmed an ex-Auditor General of Borno State, Abbah Kyariin dead in a fire outbreak that burnt a section of the University of Lagos Guest House early today, Thursday 3rd March, 2016.

The victim of the incident died of suffocation. He was said to be in the Shehu of Borno’s entourage attending the 2014/2015 convocation of the institution.

The Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garba El-Kanemi is the new Chancellor of the Institution.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the fire which started about 2.00 a.m affected four rooms which are A12, A13, A14 and A15.

The spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident through a text message sent to NAN.

“The deceased will be flown to Maiduguri for burial today,’’ the text message read in part.

NEMA spokesman tried to speak with the university's officials about the incident but was in vain as everyone claimed to be busy with the convocation events and could not talk to the press.

However, the three-day activities for the 2014/2015 convocation which started on Tuesday 1st March 2016 ends on today Thursday 3rd March, 2016.
