Nigerian Senate has today confirmed nominees to serve as Monetary Policy Committee, MPC, members of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

President Muhammadu Buhari had sent the nominees to the Nigerian Senate last year November.

The confirmation followed the March 14, 2018, resolution of the upper chamber to screen the nominees after setting aside their earlier position not to do so, due to the tarrying nippy relationship between the legislature and executive.

During the submission of plenary report, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Rafiu Adebayo  revealed that one of the nominees, Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu failed the screening. And urged the red chamber to reject the confirmation of Dr Maidugu based on the report.

Having put together, the Committee of the whole, the following nominees were confirmed: Prof. Adeola Festus Adenikinjun, Dr Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi, Dr Robert Chikwendu Asogwa while Dr Asheikh A. Madugu was rejected.

The upper chamber, however, confirmed Mrs Aishah Ahmad and Mr Edward Lametek Adamu as deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria after the Committee Chairman talked much on their competence and knowledge of the economy.
