South Africa gets new president

The new South African President
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to bring hope and revival to the country as he was inaugurated in Pretoria today.

BBC reports that the African National Congress (ANC) leader promise to tackle corruption and restore the struggling economy.

Ramaphosa was unknowingly elected by parliament to a five-year term after his African National Congress won legislative elections on May 8, taking 230 of the 400 seats. And he is the country’s fifth democratically elected president since apartheid ended in 1994.

The 66 year old leader initially took over from Jacob Zuma in 2018 after Zuma was accused of corruption.

More than 40 countries head of states attended the inauguration while the newly inaugurated president thanked them for their sacrifices and tireless contributions in liberating South Africa.
