Students protest against early closure of JAMB exams registration

Some students in Edo State who want to enrol for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations are protesting against a sudden closure of the JAMB online registration portal before the due date. The protest was staged in the State capital, Benin City, today, February 19. During the protest, the student complained that the action of examination body would negatively affect their academic careers Meanwhile, the south-south zonal Coordinator of JAMB, Mrs Priscila Ogunsola, quickly dismissed the claims by the students, insisting that JAMB gave enough time for the registration.

Buhari meets with Ooni of Ife, Adeboye

President Muhammadu Buhari played host to the recently crowned Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday February, 17. The meetings which took place at seperate times behind closed doors was held with Pastor Adeboye first and was accompanied to the President’s office by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and other top ranking members of the church. The meeting with the clergy lasted for about 20 minutes. However, the pastor declined comments when approached by State House correspondents. Then later, the new Oni of Ife in an interview with State House correspondents after the meeting said, the purpose of his meeting with the President was not only about peace and progress of the country, but also about the empowerment of the youths of Nigeria. Radio host Freeze posted this photo of legendary Nigerian singer Onyeka Onwenu shaking hands with the two former and recent Presidents, Jonathan and Buhari and asked her to stop inciting inter-ethnic tensions with her recent claims. Yesterday Onwenu wrote an open letter about her sack from her government position and said it was caused by tribalism. Onyeka Onwenu wrote letter about her termination

After serving for over two years as the Director General of the National Center for Women Development, legendary Nigerian singer Onyeka Onwenu wrote this open letter describing how tribalism played a part at the agency during her time of service and been sacked. Read the letter: When the call came on September 13 2013, to serve the Nigerian people as Director General, National Center For Women Development, I took it as a call from God and I answered in the affirmative. I served for two years and five months and did my best under very difficult conditions. We hardly had money to operate and the place was badly run down.
