Lagos Police apologise for temporary closing of 3rd Mainland

Lagos State Commissioner of Police,  Imohimi Edgal  The Lagos State Police Command has explained the reasons for the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday. In a statement released by the Lagos Police’s Public Relations Officer, Choke Oti, it was disclosed that the bridge, a busy route for Lagosians was closed as a result of a “simulation exercise” by NEMA, LASTMA, the Police and FRSC. The statement read; “The Third Mainland Bridge was temporary shut to traffic this morning 29/04/2018 due to “Simulation Exercise” carried out by NEMA, LASTMA, the Police, the FRSC and other agencies of government. The aim of the exercise is to gain a coordinated response among these agencies who are usually the first to respond in emergency situations. The Lagos State commission of Police, Imohimi Edgal hereby apologises for the inconveniences suffered while the exercise lasted. The CP added that the exercise was for common good. US President, Donald Trump and North Korea President, Kim Jong Un  North Korea promised to close its atomic test site in May and invite US weapons experts to the country as Donald Trump expressed optimism about securing a nuclear deal in his summit with the secretive regime.   The reported pledge from the North’s leader Kim Jong Un follows weeks of whirlwind diplomacy that saw Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in agree to pursue the complete denuclearisation of the peninsula during a historic summit on Friday. “Kim said, during the summit with President Moon, that he would carry out the closing of the nuclear test site in May,” Seoul’s presidential spokesman Yoon Young-chan said.  Kim said he “would soon invite experts of South Korea and the US as well as journalists to disclose the process to the international community with transparency”, Young-chan added. The effort to recall the Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi West failed on Saturday following a low turn-out for the v erification of signatures. The results announced by INEC at the end of the exercise showed that only 18,742 signatories to the recall petition were verified out of the 189,870 signatories on the petition. The verified signatories came out well below the requirement of the law that 50 per cent and one of the signatories must be verified before the recall process can continue. Accordingly, the indented Senator Melaye who is in the hospital owing to the drama that followed his arrest has survived the recall attempt. Here is how the verification exercise turned out in the seven local government areas in the senatorial district, which has 351,146 registered voters.
