Interesting facts about city of Ibadan

Ibadan is the capital of Oyo State precisely the Political Capital of Western region in Nigeria. a city built on Seven Hills. The Seven Hills are: 1. Oke Padre 2. Oke Ado 3. Oke Bola 4. Oke Mapo 5. Oke Are 6. Oke Sapati 7. Oke Mokola. But Ibadan is not just a City of Hills. It is also a City of 'Bottoms'. Loosely translated, 'idi' means bottom or the backside. Several people have attached sexual innuendoes to the names. However, the actual translation indicates that some of the 'idis' were connected with how the settlers converged at a point, thereby leading to how they arrived at the names given. Former Military President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has said that setting up a two-party political system in Nigeria is crucial to building the nation’s democracy. Babangida, who made this comment in a message to Nigerians ahead of the May 29 Democracy Day celebration, stressed that he is worried about the country’s political structure and the absence of a clear-cut ideology by political parties. The former Military President alleged that democracy in Nigeria has been polarized in the last 18 years and therefore, he wants the nation to consider adopting a two-party structure as a way to solving many of its challenges. Senate President, Bukola Saraki spent time with the children of internally displaced people at Abagana IDP Camp, Benue State on Children's day while inspecting the welfare facilities in the camp. Following the recent briefings in the past week by the security chiefs and the approval of more funding for the security agencies by the Nigerian Senate. The Senate last year, passed the North East Development Bill which is focused on restoring peace and normalcy in the insurgency disturbed areas. The act, which has now been assented to by the President, gives the North-East Development Commission the mandate to receive and manage funds allocated by the Federal Government and international donor agencies for the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of victims of the insurgency. US deports a Nigerian, withdraw citizenship for sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Deportation officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) moved 61-year-old Emmanuel Olugbenga Omopariola to Nigeria. He had been in ICE custody in the Dallas area since his arrest on April 18, 2018, when he gave himself at the ERO Dallas Field Office. He departed Dallas May 23 under ICE escort to Nigeria via JFK International Airport in New York City.   “This deportation ends this U.S. chapter for Omopariola who sabotaged his own future and opportunities through his heinous crimes against a child, and his lies on his naturalization application and in interviews,” said Simona L. Flores, field office director of ERO Dallas. “By effecting such removals, ICE helps improve public safety and enforces U.S. immigration law.” Initially, Omopariola legally entered the United States on March 25, 1983 at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on a non-immigrant student visa. ...

Oluwo of Iwoland is at it again

The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Abdulrasheed Akanbi who recently faced serious backlash for wearing a Northern attire and reportedly saying he wants to henceforth be addressed as the ''Emir of Yorubaland'' is back again. This time, he dressed in Ibo garment at the installation of the first Asiwaju (Leader) of Igbo Assembly in Iwoland saying his dressing is an insistence on the unity of Nigeria. The Oluwo tasked government to relax policies troubling the unity of Nigeria such as the state of origin certificate, restriction of political aspirations to once immediate environment and many others. He said ethnic divide has done the nation much damage, beseeching people to appreciate modern practices obtainable in developed nations for national development. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo  Vice president of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has preached on the theme: Peace Building and Good Governance for Substance Development at the National Church, Abuja to mark the Children's Day and forthcoming, Democracy day, May 29 2018. Yemi Osinbajo revealed that it is not easy and comfortable in building a nation but with perseverance and endurance, the people would move forward, using the Egyptians in the bible as an example.
