The fifth edition of Women in Journalism, conference will be coming up on 5th of October 2019. Since 18 months the conference last held, the organizers had regrouped and redirected the program with the topic: Action Journalism: Women on the Frontlines. This will specifically look at supporting and highlighting the hard work of African journalists at the conflict areas, under difficult and dangerous conditions. Like the journalists working in the North Eastern part of Nigeria and other African countries WiJAfrica is the annual conference supported by international and local partners for women journalists working in Africa. The program is aimed at advancing conversations around the practice of journalism in Africa. To lecture at the event are notable personalities like Thomson Reuters Foundation, Monique Villa, Rhodes University's Prof Anthea Garman, Courage in Journalism Award winner Christiana Anyanwu, veteran journalists Ruth Benamaisia Opia, Bimbo Oloyede, and others. ...

The ongoing social media battle between Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, and former Governor of Oyo State daughter and journalist, Kemi Olunloyo does not seem to end soon. Iyabo Ojo called out Kemi Ashefon this morning claiming the blogger carried false information about her not being married. Reacting to this new claim, the controversial Journalist, Kemi Olunloyo took to Instagram to mock the actress. She wrote: “Good morning pls people stop tagging me because of your ILLITERACY. The ability to read and write is paramount. @iyaboojofespris clearly referred to @kemiashefonlovehaven and she’s not a “mere Blogger” Iyabo. Some even think it’s Filani. Clearly “Kemi bloggers” are giving Iyabo sleepless nights. Ashefon who I’ve never met personally in case some of you don’t know was the style editor at Punch for years. Federal High court in Abuja, has ordered for the reopening of DAAR Communications Plc, owned by Raymond Dokpesi. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) suspended the licence of DAAR Communications Plc , owners of AIT and Raypower after a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday 6, June“ until further notice. The NBC Director-General said the decision was taken for failure of the stations to abide by the broadcasting code. The NBC boss said the regulatory agency had been monitoring the stations for a long time and had issued warnings that were defied. However, ruling on the matter on Friday, June 7, the Abuja division of the Federal High ordered that the stations should be reopened. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his ruling, ordered that parties in the case should maintain the status quo as the situation was as at of May 31st when the processes were filed. And the case was adjourned till June 13 for the defendant to show cause why order should not be given.

Earlier yesterday, the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) suspended the license of Daar Communication Plc, owners of AIT, RAY POWER until further notice? Reacting to the current DAAR Communication state, Reno Omokri wrote, 'the Buhari  junta has shut down  @AIT_Online . We are now officially a dictatorship. Opposition voices are stifled, and those who voted against Buhari are treated like enemies of the state and called 'necessary evil'.
