Buhari approves new appointment

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of the new Acting Commissioner of Insurance (CFI), Sunday Thomas. The appointment is to ensure effective administration of the Insurance organisation following the provision of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) Act of 1997. It was known on Friday August 8 in the circular which was released by the National Insurance Commissioner (NAICOM) signed by the Deputy Director, Home Finance for the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr A.O Bello in Abuja. According to Mr Bello, he said: “I am directed to refer to a letter referenced NAICOM/FMF/DCTO/002 date Aug. 2, on the above title and convey the approval of the Permanent Secretary for Mr Sunday Thomas, Deputy Commissioner for Insurance  (DCFI), Technical as Ag CFI, to oversee the affairs of the commission.”

Nigerian students protest against South Africans’ xenophobia, picket Stanbic Bank, DSTV, MTN in Adamawa

Members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) were on the streets of Yola, Adamawa Capital to protest against xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa. The students matched through major streets bearing placards with inscriptions such as: ‘NANS say no to xenophobia,’ ‘Why kill our citizens and loot their properties?’ ‘Enough of spiral silence,’ ‘Nigerian students can no longer keep mute while South Africans kill Nigerians,’ ‘Nigerians are no weaklings or cowards,’ ‘End South African businesses in Nigeria.’ In the course of the protest, the students led by their National Financial Secretary, Danladi Jonah, picketed Yola offices of South African businesses in Nigeria, including Stanbic Bank, DSTV, and MTN. What you should know about N9.9bn linked to the former Lagos Governor's bank accounts

Akinwunmi Ambode The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen three bank accounts containing a total of N9.9bn connecting to the former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode. Reports states that, All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu, had decided to drag Ambode to the EFCC for investigation. The EFCC, in a Press statement by its spokesman, Tony Orilade, titled, ‘EFCC Secures Freezing Order on Accounts Linked to Ex-Gov. Ambode over Alleged N9.9bn Fraud’, said Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday ordered the freezing of the sum of N9.9bn belonging to the Lagos State Government. The funds are domiciled variously in First City Monument Bank account number 5617984012; Access Bank account number 0060949275; and Zenith Bank account number 1011691254, respectively.
