Nigerians to start payment of VAT online transactions next year

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that Nigerians will start the payment of value-added tax (VAT) on both domestic and international online transactions from January 2020. FIRS executive chairman, Babatunde Fowler revealed this on Monday at the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) technical workshop in Abuja. He however noted that the date to commence the VAT on online transactions would be subject to government’s approval. “We have thrown it out to Nigerians. Effective from January 2020, we will ask banks to charge VAT on online transactions, both domestic and international. “VAT remains the cash cow in most African countries, with an average VAT-to-total tax revenue rate of 31%. She revealed this while showing off her amazing post-baby body just nine days after birthing her baby girl Asaiah Monifé Maria. She wrote: “After 4.5 days of labour and pushing her out without pain relief, it’s time to finally  celebrate my baby!!! Momma, grandmas, and friends how did y’all do it? The hardest thing I’ve done in my life! ‘Natural birth’ is not for me and I won’t be trying that again. Epidural and I got a future meeting” She looks amazing.

The Duchess of Sussex celebrates her 38th birthday today Sunday 25 August in a luxurious £108, 000 (N48,034,601) a week villa in Ibiza, Spain with a 50-metre infinity pool. Meghan, Prince Harry and their baby son Archie enjoyed a six-day stay at the Sa Calma villa on the exclusive Vista Alegre estate, near  the picturesque village of Es Cubells on the south-western coast of the island. In the luxurious villa, according to reports, visitors are provided with a house manager, waitress, live-in caretakers, housekeepers, a Range Rover with driver and night security guard. Yacht charters, beauticians, bartenders, nannies, masseurs, personal trainers and yoga instructors are available on request, all for the birthday celebration.

FG asks Nigerians indicted by FBI to surrender

Nigerians indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) probe have been asked to surrender themselves or risk getting extradited if international treaties are invoked. Recall that 77 Nigerians were arrested by the FBI, following an investigation which uncovered how they conspired with federal and state agents to dupe unsuspecting American victims of their money. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in a statement released by its chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, admitted that an accusation does not mean guilt while also expressing hope of a fair and speedy trial. Dabiri-Erewa also disclosed that these Nigerians currently prosecuted by the FBI were linked to cases of massive email fraud and money laundering.

Online Radio, TV Stations to get licence-Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed President Muhammadu Buhari has approved extensive reformsin the broadcasting industry, including the licencing of online radio and television stations. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Friday when he received members of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) on a courtesy visit in Abuja. Responding to a request made by BON for the review of the Broadcasting Code, he said, “I just want to use this opportunity to inform you that Mr President has actually already approved a review of the Broadcast Code that is going to take care of many of the issues you have already raised here.” “In particular, the President has approved that WebTVs and radio stations, including foreign broadcasters beaming signals into Nigeria, will be licensed because we must bring sanity into this industry. “Mr President has also approved a wide range of reforms in the industry which, at the appropriate pla...

Tribunal cancels Dino Melaye's election

The Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, has cancelled Senator Dino Melaye’s election. The tribunal cancelled the Senator's election earlier today, Friday 23, August. It is recalled that Dino Melaye was declared the winner of the Kogi West Senatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in February. The results which was declared by INEC showed that Melaye, who contested the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) scored 85,395 votes to defeat Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress(APC), who polled 66,901 votes. Obviously unsatisfied with the election result Adeyemi approached the tribunal which in turn, ruled in his favour on Friday. A three-man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment accepted Adeyemi’s ground and ordered for reelection into the Kogi West senatorial district.
