Nigeria emerged top in the list in the men’s heavyweight category as Abdulazeez Ibrahim won the gold medals in the Para Powerlifting game today at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Abdulazeez took control of the heavyweight category of para powerlifting with the lift of 220kg. He accumulates a total of 191.9 points despite failing his attempt at lifting 221kg, among a field of 10 contestants. Also, earlier today, Roland Ezuruike, Esther Oyema and Ndidi Nwosu all won gold in their various categories. While Yee Khie Jong from Malaysia won the silver medal with a lift of 188.7kg while India’s Sachin Chandhary went with a bronze medal in a 181.0kg effort. The Nigerian gold medallist, Abdulazeez won four years ago in the heavyweight title in Glasgow. At the ongoing Games, Nigeria has so far won eight medals; four silver and four gold. Which made the country presently ninth on the medals table.
The Syndik8 Records’ official disc jockey, Obi Ajuonuma known as DJ Obi has set Nigeria on the world map by breaking the Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Club DJing. DJ Obi earlier today at Sao Café, Lekki, Lagos, broke 200-hour record set by Polish DJ, Norbert Selmaj, also known as Norberto Loco at The Underground Temple Bar in Dublin, Ireland on November 27, 2014. DJ Obi who is the son of late Levi Ajuonuma, a former Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), began his ten-day set on June 22nd which will run till 11:30 pm tomorrow, July 2nd 2016, when he would have completed a total of 240 hours target he set for himself. While his achievement may not attract monetary reward, but he would, be recognised by Guinness Books of World Record.
