Winnie Madikizela Mandela
Former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela’s ex wife and South African anti-apartheid campaigner, Winnie Madikizela Mandela has passed away.

According to a family spokesman,  Victor Dlamini said in a statement that the 81-year-old South African died earlier today in a Johannesburg hospital after a long illness.

The late Winnie was born in 1936 in Transkei known now as the Eastern Cape.

She was a trained social worker when she met her future husband in the 1950s and they were married for 38 years, although were separated due to Mandela’s imprisonment.

The deceased played a major role in the campaign to end white-minority rule but her reputation became corrupt legally and politically years later.
