Senator Ovie Omo-Agege gets 90 days suspension

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central Senatorial district has been suspended for 90 legislative days by the Nigerian Senate today during the Senate procedure.

The suspension of the Delta Central lawmaker was recommended by the Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges which investigated him over comment on the reordering of electoral timetable.

The report which was submitted by the Committee Chairman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu explained that the strayed Delta Central lawmaker refused to speak to the committee when he appeared.

The report says Senator Omo-Agege told the Committee that he has taken the matter to court already.

Though Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan pleaded that he should not be suspended, however, Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki could not turn against the appeal from Senator Lawan and Senator Kabir Marafa.

The Senate President insisted that political leaders must be disciplined to serve as a deterrent to others and thereafter reduced the suspension from 180 legislative days to 90.
