Shitte movement clashes with Nigerian Police

The Police and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Shitte clash in Abuja.

The protest started from Unity Fountain, near Transcorp hotel.

The members are demanding for the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakizaky who has been detained for two years.

Meanwhile, the police have been firing teargas and water cannon to disperse the group.

BREAKING: Court declares Omo-Agege’s suspension by Senate invalid

The Federal High Court in Abuja has declared Senator Ovie Omo-Agege suspension by the Senate for 90 legislative days invalid. The ruling judge, Nnamdi Dimgba on Thursday stated that the Senate is only empowered to suspend an erring member for 14 days and 1 legislative day. Justice Dimgba, therefore, ordered the immediate reinstatement of Senator Omo Agege who was suspended on 12 April, 2018, to be paid salaries and other entitlements. Senator Omo-Agege was suspended during plenary over the remarks he made at a press conference that the amendment of the 2010 Electoral Act which changes the sequence of elections set by INEC is targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari. Muslims to report the sighting of the moon

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has charged Muslims across the country to look out for the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah 1440 A.H today. The new moon will lead the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. A statement by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in the Sultanate Council, Prof Sambo Wali Junaidu, advised Muslims to report the sighting of the moon to the nearest district or village head for further communication to the Sultan. “Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah 1440 A.H on August 1 and report to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar III.”
