The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared 24th, 25th and 28th as public holidays for the celebration of Maulud Nabiy, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, respectively. The announcement was made by the Minister of the Interior, Rtd Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau that the Federal Government has declared Thursday 24th December, 2015 as public holiday to mark Eid-El Maulud celebration. He also stated that Friday, 25th and Monday 28th December, 2015 have also been declared as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day celebration. Maulud Nabiyy is a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, while Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has revealed that it will introduce a device that will henceforth check collusion during its examinations across the country. The council’s Head, Media and Information, Mr Damianus Ojijeogu said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos. He said that during the 2014/2015 examination, it was discovered that collusion was gradually replacing other previous forms of malpractices recorded by the council including impersonation. “We are planning to introduce software called Item Differential Programme. This device is one that would assist in detecting collusion in any given examination. The introduction of the device is based on the high level of collusion that we discovered during the 2014/2015 examination.
