15-year-old girl abducted on her way to UTME

A 15-year-old girl, Rita Clement was abducted by unknown people last Thursday while on her way to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination at Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos State. Rita's family members have expressed how they have not known peace of mind since the incident. According to PUNCH Metro, Rita, who lived with her relatives on Gboyega Kilo Street, Ojodu Berger area, and had UTME registration number 65061660GJ, left home about 5.30am was to sit for the exam at 6.30am on that day. The PUNCH Metro correspondent who obtained the girl's examination printout, gathered that the examination centre was the West African Examination Council, International office on Plot B, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Lagos. At about 5pm, the girl sent a text message to her mother’s mobile phone, raising the alarm that she had been abducted and she did not know the location where she was taken to. CBN Introduces New Charges On ATM Cards, Cheques

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has proposed a N100 monthly charge on every debit card (ATM card) in the country. The new charge is different from the existing N65 charge after the third withdrawal within the same month. A monthly maintenance fee of N100 was also proposed every month for a naira dominated debit card when used, and a N50 charge for other months when the card is used or not. In its draft on the “guide to charges for banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria”, CBN has also proposed a N4,200-per-annum charge on foreign currency denominated cards as maintenance fee. The apex bank has also proposed a N50 charge on every cheque leaflet obtained and used at the deposit money bank’s counter, The Cable reports. This is not the same as the collection charge on cheques, which is also proposed to be “one percent of cheque value or Naira equivalent of US $10 whichever is lower”. Nigeria is ready to stop gender-based violence

Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Aisha Al-Hassan, says at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York yesterday, March 15th that Nigeria is fit to eliminate gender-based violence in the society. She said the Violence against People Prohibition Act enacted in May 2015 criminalised all forms of gender-based violence, harmful practices against women and girls, rape, and economic and political marginalization. The minister also said the national gender policy and its strategic implementation framework and plan focused on reproductive health, education, countering violence against women, and economic empowerment. She added that the Federal Government had created programmes that addressed specific social needs, which are, skills acquisition for youths, meals for primary school students and financial support to one million female marketers and artisans. Buhari establishes new target for production of crude oil

As part of efforts to reposition the country’s oil sector, President Muhammadu Buhari has set new target for the production of crude oil. The president, who was represented on March 14 by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the sixth African Petroleum Congress and Exhibition (CAPE VI) in Abuja, revealed that government has started the process of cutting production costs to boost exploration in order to achieve a production level of about 2.8 million barrel per day (mbpd). President Buhari said the quantum leap would be 30% increase of production level of 2.4 mbpd being pursued. “In Nigeria, as part of our strategies to reposition the oil industry, this administration has commenced the process of implementing carefully conceived initiatives, to reduce production costs and encourage efficiencies in oil exploration so as to achieve a 30 per cent increase in daily production levels (to about 2.8mbpd),” he said.
