According to reports, prominent personnel present at the public book presentation intentionally refused to disclosed their donations. It was not clear whether their decision was based on the present administration’s anti-graft crusade. Organizers of the presentation revealed that the donations would be sent to parents of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok and the parents of the boys abducted in Buni Yadi. Meanwhile, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo noted at the event to Mrs. Buhari that the president is very strict on monetary issues and should not expect any large donation from him. Atlético Madrid sends Barcelona out

Image
Barcelona’s hopes of a second Champions League in a row, two trebles in two years, were broken. For only the second time in eight years they have failed to reach the semi-finals; both times they were crashed out at this stage and by this Atlético side. There will be much to pick over after the referee, Nicola Rizzoli, judged that a handball in the 91st minute had occurred outside the area, not in it. Lionel Messi took the free-kick, sending Barcelona’s last chance over the bar and four nervous minutes later this stadium erupted once more. Atlético had three attempts on goal inside seven minutes and, if one was an easy catch for Marc–André ter Stegen, there were genuine chances for Gabi and Griezmann. The first flew over from near the edge of the area; the second, a header, drew a sharp save. A moment later, Yannick Carrasco’s ball flashed across the box. The home side had chosen to attack; the visitors’ plan appeared to be to anaesthetise. Barcelona had the immense majority of ...

President Buhari who is presently on a state visit to China, visited the Former Chinese Imperial Palace which is rather known as China’s Forbidden city, today April 12, 2016. Special Adviser to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has written a brief history of the forbidden city. Read: The city was built from 1406 to 1420 in the reign of the Ming Dynasty Yongle Emperor. It served as the seat of power for 24 emperors, over the course of 491 years. And why is it called the Forbidden City? Because it was not just for anybody. Not for the hoi polloi, nor the flotsam and jetsam of society. Not for the proleteriat, but only the privileged and dignified. The poor enter at their own peril. It was off limits to them. But then, the Hausa say “Seriki goma, zamani goma” (Ten kings for ten epochs) and then times and seasons would change. The Forbidden City, located over vast hectares of land, with over 8,000 buildings and 1,800,000 sets of artifacts, fell to the 1911 Revol...

WAEC to introduce new device

Image
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has revealed that it will introduce a device that will henceforth check collusion during its examinations across the country. The council’s Head, Media and Information, Mr Damianus Ojijeogu said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos. He said that during the 2014/2015 examination, it was discovered that collusion was gradually replacing other previous forms of malpractices recorded by the council including impersonation. “We are planning to introduce software called Item Differential Programme. This device is one that would assist in detecting collusion in any given examination. The introduction of the device is based on the high level of collusion that we discovered during the 2014/2015 examination. Ojijeogu explained that, “The device will be able to detect if candidates have jointly answered a particular multiple choice question, which we refer to as “item’’. For instance, if out of...
