NASS increases 2018 budget from N8.6trn to N9.1trn

The National Assembly has increased the 2018 budget from the initial N8.612 trillion to N9.120 trillion. The details of the budget were listed on the order paper available at the Nigerian Senate on today. The report was laid by Danjuma Goje, Chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee and assisted by Senator Mathew Uroghide. The national assembly had promised to pass the N8.6 trillion budget on April 24 but it failed to do so. Similarly, the House of Representatives on May 3, promised to pass the budget the following week. “By next week, everything about the budget will be treated and passed,” the spokesman of the lower legislative chamber, Abdulrazak Namdas, said. But the report on the budget was not laid in either of the chambers. The Senate did not sit on the Thursday of that week. On May 7, after a meeting with Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, Bukola Saraki, President of the Nigerian Senate, told journalists that the bill would be laid “early next week”. ...

Governor Abubakar Atiku directs teachers to train students on drug control

Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has directed teachers to imbibe the training of drugs control for effective application to fight drugs abuse among students. According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, said the governor adviced at a training programme for the State's secondary school teachers on drugs abuse organized by the State Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the United Nation Office. He commended the Federal Government for banning the importation of codeine into the country which has been identify as a substance for intoxication. Governor Atiku Bagudu advised them to involve communities in the design of confronting menace of drugs abuse saying that, drug problems did not starts and ended in school, but affect larger society. WASSCE for private candidates 2018: WAEC begins registration for second series from May 14 to July 6

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates (GCE), 2018-Second Series. This information was released to the public  by the council’s Head of National Office, Mr Olu Adenipekun specifically to all prospective candidates. The message noted that the sale has began Monday, May 14, 2018 and will close on July 6, 2018. APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION Intending candidates for the West African Senior School Exam Certificate, WASSCE for Private Candidates 2018/19- Second Series are hereby informed that registration would be online. Shitte group take over Federal Secretariat premises in Abuja

Shiites sect have has taken over the Federal Secretariat premises Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. The protesters chased away a police team stationed on the premises, overturning the traffic warden post therein. The Shitte group also embarrassed owners of vehicles driving along the route where they are. The Shiites group has been unrelenting in their protests and marches against the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The police have reinforced and currently at the protest scene. Recalling the last protests which resulted in clashes between the group and the police. Despite a court order for his release, the Shiite leader, El-Zakzaky and his wife are still held by the federal government.

NCAA suspend First Nation Airline operation

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) of First Nation Airways indefinitely over “unauthorised and illegal operations”. NCAA Spokesman, Sam Adurogboye, said in a statement that the suspension was delivered through a letter with reference No. NCAA/DG/CSLA/RM/1-06/18/2304 and dated May 11, 2018 and signed by the Agency’s Director General, Capt. Muhtar Usman. He said the letter had been delivered to First Nation Airways and the airline had acknowledged receipt. Adurogboye said:” The suspension is sequel to much and constant violation of the terms and conditions of issuance of it AOC by the airline thereby carrying out unauthorised and illegal operations. “The letter revealed that when the AOC of First Nation Airways expired, the airline did not have at least two airworthy aircraft capable of servicing its approved schedule as required by Part 9.1.1.6(b)(2) (ii) of Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulation (Nig.CARS) 2015. “Cons...
