Governor Abubakar Atiku directs teachers to train students on drug control

Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has directed teachers to imbibe the training of drugs control for effective application to fight drugs abuse among students.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, said the governor adviced at a training programme for the State's secondary school teachers on drugs abuse organized by the State Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the United Nation Office.

He commended the Federal Government for banning the importation of codeine into the country which has been identify as a substance for intoxication.

Governor Atiku Bagudu advised them to involve communities in the design of confronting menace of drugs abuse saying that, drug problems did not starts and ended in school, but affect larger society.

The Governor explained that, the peculiar drugs problem in the state might not be alcohol related but substance abuse which should be tackle with appropriate strategy.

A representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education Mr. Ruth Owetumu said the Federal Government has made it’s a priority to tackle the menance of drug addiction in schools nationwide in view of its harmful effects on the health of students and their academic performance.

Similarly, Governor Atiku Bagudu announced that the State Government would provides fifty thousand sets of computers and tablets to schools statewide to keep abreast with information communication technology, at ICT/Computer training programme for secondary schools teachers organized by the State Ministry of Education in conjunction with Multiply IT Digital Consultancy at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi this Friday.

The Governor acknowledged that, information communication technology ICT has become a necessary global trend because its affords users in urban centres and rural areas to be knowledgeable with events around the world.

In addition its provides an outlets to students to seek for knowledge and information on any subject matter with less dependence on text books.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu further acknowledged that, ICT has provided abundant business opportunities for online commerce to individuals to enhance their economic status.

The Commissioner for Education Muhammadu Magawata Aliero commended the State Governor for providing financial support for conduct of the workshops and training programmes for Teachers and principals in an outside the state.

In her remark, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Hajiya Rafa’atu Garba Hammani expressed thanks to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for motivating teachers and encouraging the ministry of education to carry out its foundation targeted of improving the education sector.
She directed schools with computers to put them into use and avoid leaving them idle.
