FG declares Friday, Monday public holiday to mark Easter celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, March 30 and Monday 2nd April, 2018 as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.

The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, by the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Julie Ejiofor.

The minister admonished Christian faithful and Nigerians in general to make use of the spiritual ethos of Easter, which include love, peace, and sacrifice, in contributing to the unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

He also urged Nigerians “to remain supportive of the government  of President Muhammadu Buhari in his efforts towards building a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.”

Dambazau implored the citizens to use the occasion to pray for the peace and unity of the country.
He wished all Nigerians a Happy Easter celebration.

Babangida summons for two-party system in Democracy message

Former Military President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has said that setting up a two-party political system in Nigeria is crucial to building the nation’s democracy. Babangida, who made this comment in a message to Nigerians ahead of the May 29 Democracy Day celebration, stressed that he is worried about the country’s political structure and the absence of a clear-cut ideology by political parties. The former Military President alleged that democracy in Nigeria has been polarized in the last 18 years and therefore, he wants the nation to consider adopting a two-party structure as a way to solving many of its challenges.
